PECO's Damage Prevention Group is dedicated to providing education and assistance to customers and excavators regarding safe excavation around PECO underground gas and electric lines.  Here at PECO, our goal is to ensure public safety, service reliability, and reduce costs by preventing damages to PECO's underground facilities.

Safe digging is everyone's responsibility and starts with a call to 1-800-242-1776 a minimum of 3 days before you plan to dig or visit PA one Call System  on the web.

Line Clearance Program
Our Vegetation Management Line Clearance Program designed to minimize power interruptions and hazards caused by tree branches and other types of vegetation that come in contact with power lines.

We clear limbs, trees, vines, and other plants away from power lines before they have a chance to damage PECO facilities or equipment. If damage occurs,  that can cause power outages, or compromise safety. Our Line Clearance Program helps us provide you with the secure and dependable service PECO is committed to.

Grounds Maintenance
PECO's grounds maintenance program ensures that the high standards of PECO are met or exceeded at all PECO locations; approximately 700 sites.  The scope of work represents every company owned property requiring some element of landscaping, grass mowing, transmission ROW turf mowing, weed control, site clean up, or any other activity relating to grounds maintenance.  Additionally, snow plowing is performed at most PECO Business work sites.  Maintenance of PECO sites include:

  • Service Buildings
  • Railroad Sidings
  • Transmission ROW
  • Substations
  • Generating Stations
  • Recreational Areas
  • Gas Gate Stations
  • Gas Regulator Stations

The successful management of the Grounds Maintenance program is critical to system reliability and property aesthetics.

Right of Way Maintenance
Right of Way (ROWs) are the corridors where electrical towers or wood poles are located.  The lines that run along rights of ways carry the transmission voltage electricity (66kV, 130kV, 200kV, 500kV).  PECO either has an easement for these lines or the company owns the property where the lines are located.

In some areas, PECO mows the grass on the ROWs. The lines are mowed five times a year starting in late April. The ROWs are maintained as field mowing or meadow, not as a lawn or turf area. PECO does not spray the ROWs for broadleaf weeds such as Dandelion or ticks.
